Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Is Available Now
Square Enix’s tactical RPG revival is now available across modern consoles and PC, with later updates expanding language support and adding features such as New Game Plus.

Current status
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles launched on September 30, 2025 for most platforms, with the Steam version following on October 1. The enhanced version includes full voice acting, a revised interface, visual improvements, and accessibility-oriented quality-of-life changes, while a classic version preserves the original game structure.
Square Enix brings Ivalice back
Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles as a modern return for one of the most influential tactical RPGs of the PlayStation era. The remaster was dated for September 30, 2025, and positioned as a broad multiplatform release across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch hardware, and PC.
The headline change is not only sharper presentation. The Ivalice Chronicles adds full voice acting in English and Japanese, giving Ramza, Delita, Agrias, Mustadio, Orlandeau and the rest of the political drama a more theatrical shape than the original 1997 release. Square Enix also built the package around two ways to play: an enhanced version with modern conveniences and a classic version for players who want the older feel preserved.
What changes in The Ivalice Chronicles
The remaster updates the interface, battle readability, visuals, and localization while keeping the tactical grid, job-building, turn order, and class synergies that made Final Fantasy Tactics endure. The modern version adds quality-of-life features aimed at making the game easier to parse without flattening the strategy.
That matters for a game where information is the whole fight. Range, elevation, charge time, facing, equipment, job abilities, and turn order all decide whether a move wins a battle or leaves a unit exposed. Modern interface improvements can make that logic clearer for new players while letting veterans spend less time fighting menus.
Why voice acting is a big deal for this story
Final Fantasy Tactics is remembered as much for its political tragedy as its battles. The story follows Ramza Beoulve and Delita Heiral through noble houses, class conflict, church manipulation, betrayal, and war. Full voice acting gives Square Enix a chance to make the script feel closer to a staged drama.
The remaster’s cast also gives the cameo material extra attention. Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough return as special appearances, with Cody Christian and Briana White attached to those roles in the source article’s reporting. That does not turn Final Fantasy Tactics into a Final Fantasy VII crossover, but it gives the bonus material a cleaner modern presentation.
The NexusArc read
The safest way to read this remaster is as preservation with onboarding. Square Enix is not selling it as a complete remake with rebuilt systems. It is trying to make a dense tactical RPG friendlier to modern players while keeping the original strategy loop intact.
That is the right lane for Final Fantasy Tactics. The job system, battlefield geography, and Ivalice writing still do the heavy lifting. The upgrade succeeds if it makes those strengths easier to access without sanding down the parts that made the game demanding.
