Old School RuneScape Introduces Scurrius the Rat King in Latest PvM Update

Old School RuneScape added a mid-level boss

Jagex added Scurrius, the Rat King, as a boss aimed at level 60 players in the Varrock Sewers. The encounter was designed for players learning boss mechanics and can be fought alone or with a group.

Scurrius uses attacks that teach movement, prayer switching, and recognition of combat styles. Players can answer with melee, ranged, or magic, making the fight a practical introduction to skills used in harder player-versus-monster encounters.

Where to find Scurrius

The boss arena sits east of the ladder in the Varrock Sewers. Its location keeps the encounter close to an early-game city while giving mid-level accounts a repeatable fight with clearer mechanics than ordinary sewer enemies.

The encounter supports solo and group play. Solo attempts place more responsibility on the learner, while groups let players observe the attack cycle and practice with less pressure.

Rat Spine weapons support faster training

Scurrius can drop a Rat Spine used to create a bone bow, bone staff, or bone mace. Each weapon is aimed at one of the three combat styles and receives a damage bonus against rats, including Scurrius.

That reward structure connects the boss to combat training. Players can learn the fight, craft a specialized weapon, and use it to improve later runs or train elsewhere against rat enemies.

What else changed in the update

The update also included a fix involving blood runes and promoted Jagex's post-League IV survey. With the official forums scheduled to close, Jagex directed players toward the Old School RuneScape Discord for community and clan activity.

Scurrius fills a useful gap in progression: it gives mid-level players a boss built around readable mechanics before they move into encounters with tighter timing and harsher penalties.
