Elden Ring is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC. FromSoftware’s new action role-playing game opens the Lands Between after years of anticipation, pairing the studio’s demanding combat with a large world that players can explore in multiple directions.

Bandai Namco published a launch trailer earlier this week and confirmed regional release times ahead of today’s arrival. The game is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with worldbuilding contributions from fantasy author George R. R. Martin.

The Lands Between are open

Players take the role of a Tarnished called back to a fractured realm after the shattering of the Elden Ring. Rather than moving through one tightly ordered sequence of areas, they can travel across open fields, descend into smaller dungeons, investigate large legacy dungeons, and decide which challenges to confront first.

A spectral steed makes long-distance travel and mounted combat possible. Sites of Grace guide the journey without prescribing a single route, while map fragments, landmarks, and discoveries give the world its structure. The result broadens FromSoftware’s familiar formula without removing the danger associated with its previous games.

Combat allows several approaches

Elden Ring supports close-range weapons, shields, bows, sorceries, incantations, stealth, and summonable spirits. Character attributes and equipment let players shape very different builds. Online features also return, including cooperative assistance, hostile invasions, messages, and the ghostly traces of other adventurers.

The scale may be new, but the fundamentals remain recognizable: careful timing, stamina management, learning enemy behavior, and accepting that defeat is part of progress. Checkpoints reduce some repetition, while optional routes give players somewhere else to go if one encounter proves too difficult.

Cross-generation options are included

Bandai Namco says PlayStation 4 buyers can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version at no additional cost. On Xbox, Smart Delivery supplies the appropriate version across Xbox One and Xbox Series hardware. PC players can purchase the game through Steam.

Launch day is only the beginning for a game built around secrets, experimentation, and shared discovery. Server conditions and technical performance will become clearer as more people enter the Lands Between. For now, the central event is simple: one of the most anticipated games of the generation has reached players around the world.
